The Bride of the Water God chapter 98 (하백의 신부 제98회) appeared in the October 15, 2010 issue of Wink Magazine. If you don’t want to know, don’t read. Bride of the Water God is on hiatus for the November 1 issue. The next chapter will appear on November 15.

SPOILER ALERT

Biryum’s pulling back out the staff he stabbed Mura in the back with. Mui’s, like, “Mura!! Biryum! What’s the meaning of this?? Don’t tell me you’re on the emperor’s side now, too??” Biryum tells him to go take Soah and leave this place, wasn’t Mui’s goal to get the fruit, it’s located in Mura’s deepest room. He tells Mui he had been helping Mui this entire time as a favor for Mura. And now that Mura is dead, his promise to her is also done with. He also tells Mui he isn’t qualified to be sad over Mura. Mui says, “Biryum, were you… in love with Mura…?” Biryum tells him he no longer wishes to see him so go disappear immediately. (Mui goes off to find Soah.) Biryum’s left with Mura. He says she must be mad at him for chasing away the one she loves. He says he can finally be rid of her. And that time [I guess during the time he had to help Mui] was really quite sickening. He wonders if they should have reached this point sooner. He feels refreshed/relieved inside. She is lying in his lap (wounded). She is looking up at him. She says if you’re feeling relieved inside, what’s with that look? (He has tears streaming down his eyes.) He clutches her to his chest. Flashback to when she was pretty young. She is asking him why he goes around with his face all covered up and can’t he take it off once. He says as a wind god he has to maintain discipline so he cannot show his face unless [when the other person is dead]. Flashback ends. She says so now can he take his coverings off (since she’s dying). He lets her remove his head coverings. And she looks disappointed. There wasn’t anything special on his face he was hiding and that it was such a shame to have hidden such a face for so long. She thanks him for granting her final request. At this point I think she has finally died. You finally see a full pic of Biryum’s face (tears streaming down). He is clutching her tightly to him. Flashback to a more recent time. [Flashback] He says, “What? Just what are you saying, Mura?” “Just what I said. For the sake of Habaek, [I want you to] kill me.” “No. You think I can do something like that?” “I’m also going to ask this of Habaek. But, since it’s him, he won’t be able to do it. Therefore, it can only be you. This is my last request. If you really love me, then stop me.” [Flashback ends.] He is clutching her. He says, “Don’t worry, Mura. I won’t leave you to be alone.” He pulls out his sword and has it placed next to his neck. ”I’ll be by your side.” You see huge splatters of blood. Next page shows her body and Biryum’s animal form dead lying next to each other. “Together, forever…”

Scene switch. Mui has Mura’s blood on his hands (since she fell forward into him when she was stabbed). He wonders how things could have come to this. The mountain is starting to fall apart because Mura’s dead. He is alarmed and is hurrying to find Soah (on his dragon). He finds her and she seems unharmed. He apologizes for leaving her alone. He says they should hurry before the mountain falls apart. He knows where the fruit is so they can go get it immediately. She snatches her hand back and says, “I am sorry, Mui. But, I do not want to eat the fruit…”

Goong chapter 164 (궁 제164회) appeared in the October 15, 2010 issue of Wink Magazine. If you don’t want to know, don’t read.

SPOILER ALERT

Shin talks a bit. He asks Yul for one favor: to take care of his mother and younger siblings (forever more). Yul bows his head in acknowledgement. Shin says he’ll be leaving now since all the other palace people (I hate all these formal royal terms) are coming by soon. Yul agrees and says he’ll be going now, too. Yul has turned around to go but Shin says, “Wait a second. Do you perhaps know of a [gourmet restaurant/good place to eat/etc] around the area of Angook city.” He says he’s asking since Yul had spent time outside the palace. Yul asks why. Shin says now that he’s free, he was thinking he’d like to try a date at such a place. Yul plays dumb and says, “Date..? With whom?” And then pretends he doesn’t know of any. Shin’s like ah well guess I’ll have to look it up on the internet. Yul’s thinking, “You should have just done that in the first place! You were just trying to provoke me!” Yul’s thinking of all the effort he put into researching dozens and dozens and hundreds of places on the Internet to take Chae-kyung to to enjoy eating … to the point where his attendants thought he had gone off the deep end/gone crazy. At the end he compiled a list of the top 100 places to go with her. And he’s day-dreaming of the dates he dreamed of going on with Chae-kyung (to wine and dine). His daydream is broken by the old court attendant guy who has his own top 20 list of places to go to together with Yul. Yul hangs him from a tree instead (comic moment).

Scene switch. Shin’s mother is protesting to the Queen Mother. The Queen Mother tells her to stop it. And she says that they need to bring [Chae-kyung] back. Shin’s mother is like “but…” and the queen mother tells her that she should know all too well that Shin needs Chae-kyung and Chae-kyung perhaps likewise needs Shin. (Titles used and not their names) And that Chae-kyung had suffered after having being plucked away, being forced in the palace for a short time, then being kicked back out — Chae-kyung’s parents for sure have no desire to let their daughter get involved with anything royal, again. So the queen mother tells Shin’s mother that the two of them should throw away their pride and even get on their knees. And that the one who should take responsibility is not the prince (Shin) but the adults (themselves).

Scene switch. The saboteur’s father (the one who was driving the car) is being taken away by authorities. The son’s upset that this is his fault.

Scene switch. Chae-kyung’s walking with crutches at school and greeting all these people at school. Chae-kyung says she told her parents not to come for her since she’s not in elementary school anymore and to just send a car to pick her up. She notices a crowd around a crazy-nice car. And wonders what’s going on. Shin’s trying to be dressed to not be noticed and has a baseball cap on and is waiting just outside the school’s brick wall (that makes up the perimeter) since he’s waiting for her to come out. He has bought one of the best mont blanc cakes in the area or something. He spies her coming out. But then, they both see something and are like “!!” Because what they see are Shin’s mother and the queen mother dressed in modern suits greeting Chae-kyung and congratulating her on being able to leave the hospital. End of chapter.

The Bride of the Water God chapter 97 (하백의 신부 제97회) appeared in the October 1, 2010 issue of Wink Magazine. If you don’t want to know, don’t read. There was no Goong this issue.

SPOILER ALERT

Soah’s panicking and wondering what she should do since this goddess somehow knows who she is. Scene switch.

Mui’s thinking about Soah. Then, he says out loud, “I promised her. That I would take care of her.” He turns his head to the side to direct his speech behind him. “And that is why I have come here, Mura.” Mura thanks him for coming here to find her even if it’s not to see her and that this fruit is really quite something to have the power to make him come here. She asks him to respond carefully to a question. And that if he had not met Nakbin and if Soah had never come to the Water Realm, does he think he could have fallen in love with her[Mura]? He says, “No…” pretty fast. She looks a bit hurt and down and says he didn’t even try to pretend to think about it. But that he speaks his mind without really considering the other person is what she liked about him. And how everyone only called her ‘witch’ but he had called her a goddess. And above anyone else, his words had made her happy. Then she says if he wants the fruit, he’ll have to kill her. Mui snatches her wrist (since she was trying to get real close and have her hands on him) and tells her he’d never be able to do that. She calls him a liar and tells him she had sold his bride’s information to the emperor. And isn’t that enough reason for him to kill her? Or how about this: can he forgive her for being the one to have deceived and lied to Nakbin to make Nakbin misunderstand him. Or if that’s not enough, how about what is behind him. He turns around. Biryum’s bloody and lying on the ground. Mui’s like, “Biryum! Get a hold of yourself! What happened??” Mura says to not worry about him since he’s still alive. And beyond that, isn’t he forgetting one more thing? If he and Biryum are here, then where could his precious bride be, at the moment? She goes on saying he knows just how dangerous this mountain is for humans, right. This place is the asylum for all the dangerous gods who’ve been abandoned by the world of gods. They hate all gods and humans alike. And what does he think will happen to Soah if she encounters one of these gods? balhblbh and if he’s worried then he should kill her[Mura] and that everything had started by his hand so he should stop things with his hand since she is not capable of stopping herself anymore. And to not forget how she, whom he would have killed, looks. She says if he forgives her this time, then she’ll just wait for the next time and the next time she’ll truly kill Soah. And so he should kill her. She’s all up close to him again almost in kissing range. Then plop you see a rod. Then you see her face in shock. Then you see that she’s bleeding. She says, “how…?” Last page shows Biryum holding a rod that’s going through her back. She says, “Biryum… you [stabbed/are killing] me?” End of chapter.

The Bride of the Water God chapter 96 (하백의 신부 제96회) appeared in the September 15, 2010 issue of Wink Magazine. If you don’t want to know, don’t read.

SPOILER ALERT

Going to make this short since there is another chapter after this I have to summarize. Biryum asks Mui just what does Mura mean to him. Mui says they are like older sister/younger brother. Biryum says but to Mura, Mui is EVERYTHING and does Mui remember the last words he told Mura. (He had told her to not lay hands on Soah again and that was her last warning and don’t make him hate her.) Mui is wondering what he should do about Mura. Mura and that other light-haired goddess is talking. Mura tells the other goddess she can do whatever she wants with the human who’s on the island (Soah). Other-goddess asks Mura if she[Mura] has seen her[light-haired goddess]‘s son. Mura says no but he must be on the mountain somewhere.

Scene switches. The (pretty-hot looking god) is looking over Soah’s slumbering figure and wondering who she is since she seems human. As he gets near her, his HUGE wolf starts snarling and a king water dragon comes out of the protective amulet/stone Mui had given her. Now the god is really wondering who she is and who the owner of the charm is. He just waits for her to wake up. When she does she’s like who are you. He asks her who gave her the charm and she lies and says Biryum gave it to her. He says that wind-god Biryum? And says for him to have given her such a charm on par with his own powers, he must love her. But then he goes on to say that they’d be better off if that was not the case since there was a instance like this before. She asks what happened. He says a goddess fell in love with a human man and made him into a god. Soah wants to meet this human man who’s also experienced having a god/goddess fall in love with her/him. The god standing before her says that’s not possible since the human man went crazy and died. No, rather, he died by the hands of the goddess who loved him. Now Soah seems worried. A majestic peacock-like huge bird flies by. The god looks up and is like oh, mother’s looking for me. The peacock/phoenix is talking to him and is like so you were here…then notices Soah. She transforms into her goddess form (this is the light-haired goddess who had killed the human man she fell in love with and made him into a god). And goes up to Soah, grabs her hair (not that forcefully) and says, “So, you must be the human girl named Soah.” End of chapter.

Goong chapter 163 (궁 제163회) appeared in the September 15, 2010 issue of Wink Magazine. If you don’t want to know, don’t read.

SPOILER ALERT

Where we left off: Chae-kyung’s still eating in the cafeteria area of the hospital and Shin’s wearing a hoodie (hood’s up) and asked her if she knew of a good house in her neighborhood he can live in. Okay, now for chapter 163. She’s surprised and he’s like there should be a bunch in her area. She’s like you’re different from me: I’m a normal person with a registration card but you’re just a prince with no such thing and you? live in my area? (she starts busting out laughing) Then she has a sudden thought of what would happen if he really did live in her area. She starts imaging all the bad stuff in her head that he may say or do since he’s the prince. Then she starts looking sick to her stomach. She’s like, “but no, really, why do you want to come out [of the palace] and live? is it because you want to live closer to me?” He’s about to tell her the real reason (about him losing his position as the crown prince, basically) when she all of a sudden starts waving and shouting to her mother that she’s over here. When her mom walks over she was about to say Shin was there but noticed he had vanished (he’s hiding under the table next to her knees). Meanwhile she’s asking her mom how her aunt is doing. Shin motions for her to keep quiet about him being under the table. Mom updates her on the aunt then asks her if she wants to go on a date — at the hospital there’s some son of some hospital head who goes to her school and is a 3rd year (I think that’s a senior in Korean terms since middle and high school are 3 years each?) Chae-kyung’s like “…mom…” Her mom keeps going on saying she saw the pic of the boy and he looks quite all right and maybe just once they can try a date balhbalhbalh. Chae-kyung’s like, “..mom….” Her mom’s like, “You can get yourself a good boyfriend, now, right~~~?” Shin’s getting aggravated and is about to come out of hiding to leave when Chae-kyung pushes his head down (under the table) to make him get back down. Chae-kyung tells her mom she’s tired and how about going back to her hospital room. So she and her mom leave. Shin’s all annoyed at the thought of Chae-kyung dating. Comic moment with the guards in shades.

Scene switch. Yul is surprised and asking the king what is he saying, that he[king] is making him[Yul] the next in line for the throne? The king tells Yul he[king] has lost. balhbalbhalbh nothing really interesting except that the king tells Yul he may be putting Yul at the top now (for the throne) but he’s not going to exactly roll over and play dead (the king’s going to fight on and not abdicate).

Scene switch. Yul’s leaving the quarters and is walking in the courtyard. He is thinking. He sees Shin. Panels are alternating between current scene and a flashback back to when Yul had to leave the palace and asked Shin to look after a sapling. He had thought Shin was lying when he said he’d take care of it. Current time has them standing in front of a rather tall and well-off tree. (Shin had kept his word.) Yul says, “I am sorry… I’m …truly .. sorry..” End of chapter.

The Bride of the Water God chapter 95 (하백의 신부 제95회) appeared in the September 1, 2010 issue of Wink Magazine. If you don’t want to know, don’t read.

SPOILER ALERT

Beautiful mountain landscape background. Huge thudding noises. Biryum is flying on his dragon and says it’s difficult to find since it is always moving but that is Chung Yo San (Blue Shaking Mountain?) where Mura is. Habaek’s carrying Soah with the reins of another dragon. Title page shows a huge walking turtle on whose back is the mountainous landscape with lots of birds flying around. (You can’t see the end of its feet so you don’t know what it’s walking ON.)

Mura says he’s finally here. She’s thinking that he’s late and she knew he’d come for the last fruit she has. Another woman with light-colored hair (can’t see her whole face yet) comments that Mura is still clinging to that fake love of hers and she[Mura] will soon come to know how love is devoid of … (tenderness?) Mura’s like, Goddess of Happiness/Fortune (“Gil Sang Chun Nyuh”), you can’t exactly be telling that to me when you, yourself, had fallen in love with a human male and did the forbidden and made him into a god. The other goddess says, yes, Mura, you’re correct, but also — I was also the one who killed him. You see her entire body and face now. She has a feminine tattoo thing on her forehead and wears a Mandarin-style dress and holds a circular hand fan. She continues by saying that how dare a human set foot on the [Blue? Shaking Mountain]. And that she’s not too keen on the emperor, but one part of him she does like is how he hates humans — those useless and powerless insect-like things. And she comments that since he even brought a human here then the rumors that the water god is in love with a human seem to be true. And he[Habaek] is being as naive/immature/childish as Mura is since the love between a god and a human can only have one result/ending. And if she[Mura] doesn’t know, she[Fortune Goddess] will tell her — what the cost of loving a god is to the one who loves the god. Mura’s like, your issues have nothing to do with me so keep your hands off Habaek since he is my issue. Goddess of Fortune’s like don’t worry I won’t touch the one you yearn for. Scene switch.

Habaek says he’ll go alone from here and asks Biryum to look after Soah. Soah’s like no, I want to go with you. He tells her to stop being stubborn and listen to him. This place isn’t the water country and it’s not the lunar palace. And all gods are strongest within their own territories. And this place is Mura’s and so she’ll be the strongest of anyone, here, on this mountain. And he cannot let her[Soah] get into any more danger than he’s already put her in by bringing her here. Soah says she understands and she’ll wait here, but instead, he needs to promise her that he won’t make her wait long this time. He says he promises and tells her to hold onto ‘this’. In her hand is a charm…normally I’d say it’s a choker necklace but it’s too short for that. It’s like the length of a cell-phone charm. At the end is an oriental knot. At the other end is a dark bead with some flowers around it. He says that this bead will protect her in his stead. She says she won’t lose it and will hold onto it. Habaek leaves. Biryum’s like okay now we … she interrupts and tells him to follow Mui. And Biryum’s like what? Do you know how dangerous it is where he’s going? And she’s like yes and that is why she can’t send Mui alone to somewhere so dangerous. He’s like no no way and he promised Mui to keep her safe. She asks him isn’t he worried about Mura, too, and that it must have been a lie about him loving Mura since he’s just leaving the one he loves in danger while he observes from a safe place… He tells her to promise she will just stand and wait and not do anything dangerous. Soah says she promises. Biryum is walking away. He glances back and is like, “Who’s there?!!” a noise indicates the thing is leaving. Biryum’s like, you’re thinking of getting away?! Stay still! Soah’s like, “Biryum?” Biryum is thinking he had spied the back of Mura. He gets caught by these pieces of paper that are like those Shinto pieces of paper with wards scrawled on them. He realizes he fell into a trap and that Soah is in danger. Soah’s wondering where he went and she thinks she should have just stayed where they had been and what should she do it seems she got lost. [ComicSeoul's comment -- sometimes I think her character is made out to be far too STUPID for my taste] She gets sleepy all of a sudden and can’t stay awake. She dozes off. Some guy holding an ornate sword and dressed in a cropped upper armor piece and …eyepatch? with a big big big big white wolf (with a symbol on its forehead) are standing above her. End of chapter.

Goong chapter 162 (궁 제162회) appeared in the September 1, 2010 issue of Wink Magazine. If you don’t want to know, don’t read.

SPOILER ALERT

For the first two pages, Chae-kyung is in the hospital practicing walking, again with the aid of two banister rails (set up just for this purpose). She fakes out her parents by wobbling and semi-toppling — only to catch herself firmly on the rails again (with her hands). Her parents laugh. Scene switch.

One of the king’s men tells him that the accident is suspicious and is being investigated and mechanics are looking at it and that there seemed to have been mechanical tampering. King’s like, so someone was targeting [Chae-kyung]? The guy’s like, no, it seems she was trying to borrow a citizen’s car but that didn’t work out so she ended up borrowing the prince’s. So, it seems the prince was being targeted. The king’s a bit shocked. And wondering who could have done it. Scene switch.

Yul is walking. Apparently the king has called for him and Yul is wondering why. He wonders if the king has discovered his mother was connected to the accident. He spies a big tub of water in the courtyard. He thinks of the tale of the fire demon who saw his reflection and ran away. He wonders what he’ll see in his reflection. He looks into the water. He’s thinking how he is the one whose brought matters to this point. He is shocked. Next to his reflection in the water is the reflection of a shriveled old man — the old court guy who’s often in comedic sequences in Goong. Yul tells him it’ll be the last day they meet and other stuff and so another comedic sequence ensues balbhablh. Scene switch.

Shin is walking with a hoodie on (hood up) in the hospital. He’s thinking how he thought he could be resolute, brush it off, and get back up, again. (Close-up to his wide-open eyes). “But I was scared.” (Eyes are squeezed tightly shut now.) “I was scared to death.” His hand is on the door. “Of living a completely different life from what I had been living until now. The feeling of fear from having the goal in my life, which had been far too clear, evaporating all of a sudden. However.” He opens the door. His eye looks like “!” He finishes his thought, “If one thing is to come up top…” He sees Chae-kyung. She waves. He’s half-yelling at her for calling him here when he can be discovered and if her mother finds out… Chae-kyung says her mom’s gone for the moment since her aunt (her mom’s sister) was sick and her father’s gone to work and Chae-joon’s around somewhere but balbhlbh. She says that when she gets to leave the hospital tomorrow, meeting up would get even more difficult so she called him out to meet up just once. He says but why in such a place where there are so many people. She says she can’t help it since she’s hungry and the guards all followed. He sees the guards (in suits with black sunglasses on). She tells him to sit. He’s thinking about her. She’s eating. balbhalh. He says about her proposal/suggestion (not the marriage proposal type of proposal) from before, it seems he’s open to the suggestion now. She’s like, open? whatever now! it’s no longer valid! She says why’d you bring up something from before with such a … he tells her, “Well, you see, I’m not sure if I’ll need to go out of the palace and live. If a good house in your neighborhood is available, could you let me know? From now on, I want/intend to live by your side–” End of chapter.

Goong chapter 161 (궁 제161회) appeared in the August 15, 2010 issue of Wink Magazine. If you don’t want to know, don’t read. I am getting annoyed at this series.

SPOILER ALERT

The chapter opens with him acting cool and playing hard to get and calling her out by saying she tries to run away from danger and extracted herself from the marriage but now she only wants just the love part? He says he has to think of the citizens, etc. And says did you think I’d just turn around and be like thanks, sure thing? And she’s reflecting on his words about escaping the burden of danger and she’s like yeah, but the thought of going back in there[the palace]… And he’s like who asked you to come back, did I ask you to marry? There’s no need to worry about marrying me because I’ll go about this the proper way, this time, and [go through the formal selection of brides through candidate filtering]. She’s like ! because she’s imagining him prancing around with all these women hanging onto him and he’s auditioning the women to be his bride. She’s peeved at this thought. blahbalbh more stuff like this and he sets her down on her bed and tells her to rest and leaves the room. She’s yelling at him and is like who the heck does that [formal audition of brides thing] in this day and age! He has closed the door behind him and laughs to himself. Her mom meets him outside the room and basically tells him not to visit Chae-kyung anymore and their family does not want to go back into the royal family circle and if he comes back to see Chae-kyung, again, she’ll take her daughter out of Korea.

Scene switch. Silly interaction between the old male and old female court servant.

Scene switch. A group of people from the palace are following Shin around and pleading with him. He signals with his hand for them to stop that (but they don’t). He has a flashback to when his father, the King, talked to him. Shin had started this meeting protesting saying but you know how Yul is etc. The King is going over his thoughts and how this is not simply an internal family matter but affects the extended family and the citizens. His father admits that he[the King] is not completely in the right, either. And that the previous father had declared that the extended royal family would be allowed to stay in the palace until each and every one of them has passed on. So, in the end, his father tells him he is letting Shin make the decision since it affects him completely. Flashback ends. The group is trying to make him read some rolled up letter (in a scroll) and is like what about the royal family members [the extended family] and they’re whining on and on until finally Shin gestures for them to stop and says who said that you will be kicked out of the palace? End of chapter.

Well, if you consider this a SPOLER, consider yourself WARNED

Nothing crazy was revealed. We already knew all that stuff, basically. But, in the last few pages, an event happens. IMO this event will make volume 8 kind of boring, but, we will see.
